Students

Maine College of Art graduate students come from all over the United States and abroad to attend a program that uniquely offers small class sizes, an extraordinary range of faculty, significant independent studio time, a responsive year-round curriculum, access to MECA’s full facilities throughout the summer session, and a network of personal studio mentors who work with students wherever they reside.

The program supports and encourages explorations across media during the residential summer period by providing access to shops and labs in printmaking, photography, digital media, painting, woodworking, metals, sculpture, ceramics, and design. Academic work is carried out through live and electronic platforms throughout the entire year with a strong emphasis on critical writing and articulate speaking accompanied by image production, sharing, and analysis.

Full-time High residency students at MECA may apply for positions as MFA Mentors and Teaching Assistants in the BFA program, while all students are encouraged to apply for numerous Research Assistantships that include “amabassadorial” and outreach positions, office assistantships, archival internships, writing coach positions, and curriculum developers for faculty.
